Back during the fall of 2000, a contest took place to determine a new name for the youth group. It was really stressed to them the importance of their name. It was our desire that the new name would become more than merely a name, but would describe their current mindset and passions, as well as their goals for their growth in their spiritual walks.
The youth group logo was designed by one of our young people. No help was given by any of the youth leaders. We all met together and the young people voted unanimously for the Heartburn Logo. We all believe this logo was chosen by the Lord's direction!
The foundational verse of this logo is Jeremiah 20: 9.
"But his word was in mine heart
as a burning fire shut up in my bones."
We can now fast forward to March of 2001. On Sunday, March 11th, the Heartburn Youth Group returned from Winterfest 2001 in Knoxville, TN. Many of the young people had experiences with God, several received the baptism of the Holy Spirit, and I don't believe you could find one young person to say Jesus did not do a work in their life. God is so good! We can honestly say God truly set their hearts ablaze! Jesus set aflame the hearts of these young people! May the fire only burn brighter!
