BIBLE FACTS ABOUT WINE

(1) Some think it is alright to drink wine etc. as long as one don't           get drunk, the only way to make sure you don't get drunk is not       to drink the things that would make one drunk

(2) Galatians 5:19-21
Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these;                 Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
[20] Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath,           strife, seditions, heresies,
[21] Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such               like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in             time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the           kingdom of God.

(3) Now we see here that drunkenness = shall not inherit the                 kingdom of God

(4) I have heard Brother Dake say you will never get drunk by              drinking butter milk

(5) The only sure way not to get drunk is to abstain from the things       that would make one drunk

(6) Wine is used two ways in the Bible = fermented and                           unfermented

(7) Isaiah 65:8
Thus saith the Lord, As the new wine is found in the cluster,            and one saith, Destroy it not; for a blessing is in it: so will I do          for my servants' sakes, that I may not destroy them all.

    (a) " DAKE'S NOTES"
The juice of grapes being called wine while still in the cluster            shows that all wine referred to was not necessarily fermented          or intoxicating.

    (b) So we see from this verse that the wine was in the cluster,                 which was still on the vine, so wine here is unfermented or               unintoxicating

(8) Now let us look at one of the verses that these wine drinkers           use

(9) 1 Tim. 5:23
Drink no longer water, but use a little wine for thy stomach's            sake and thine often infirmities.

    (a) "DAKE'S NOTES"
Drink no longer water only or altogether, but mix a little wine          with it for your stomach's sake to strengthen your body.                    Greeks often mixed water with wine, about one part wine and          two to three parts water. It was held that constantly drinking            water injured the stomach.  Timothy's father was a Greek                and he had been used to wine, but because of Christianity he            had continued to abstain from it.  Paul here gives him                        permission to use a little wine mixed with water for his                      health.  The advice was dietetic.  We need not suppose,                    however, that Paul's use of the word wine means that                        Timothy partook of anything intoxicating.
      (b) But you say Jesus drunk wine, well let us look at that

(10) Matthew 26:29
But I say unto you, I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of             the vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in my                  Father's kingdom.

       (a) Fruit of the vine = once again we see grape juice fruit of                    the vine

        (b) So you see two verses that will let you know that every                     time the word wine is used in the bible sometimes it was                    fermented and sometimes it was unfermented, or as one                   would understand today sometimes it refer to wine, and                     sometimes it refer to grape juice

        (c) So Paul was saying Timothy drink a little grape juice for

        (d) You say preacher, I need more understanding

(11) Proverbs 4:17
For they eat the bread of wickedness, and drink the wine of              violence.

       (a) The wine of violence = Tell the City policeman that goes to              Church here who answer a call to a house where a woman                was beat and bloody by her husband, tell him that drinking                is all right

       (b) Tell a mother that has just put her child in the ground, that                is dead because of a drunk driver, tell her it is all right                      drink

(12) 1 Thes. 5:22
Abstain from all appearance of evil.

      (a) When something appears to be evil abstain from it

      (b) Have people forgotten this verse
            Luke 9:23
And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let                 him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow                   me.

      (c) Does anyone believe in deny self any more

(13) Proverbs 20:1
Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is               deceived thereby is not wise.

      (a) This verse says wine is a mocker = it will make a fool of                   you  Tell the Mother that sits here that her child can drink                when she knows how many times wine has mock her child

      (b) This verse says strong drink is raging = tell the wife that                   sits in here that her husband has come home in a rage = he               can drink = tell her

      (c) This verse also lets you know that wine will deceive, and                   that you will not be wise

      (d) I don't know about you but I want to listen to wise people

(14) Proverbs 21:17
He that loveth pleasure shall be a poor man: he that loveth               wine and oil shall not be rich.

       (a) Shall not be rich

       (b) Try and tell me that drinking is all right, as a child I woke                  up Christmas morning's with no gifts, because strong drink              got the money, don't even try and tell me it is o.k.

       (c) Tell the kids a crossed this country that there dead beat                   Dads, who haven't sent any money to them for food or                       clothes, tell them it is all right to drink

       (d) Do you see the evil of drinking yet, if so remember
            1 Thes. 5:22
Abstain from all appearance of evil.

(15) Proverbs 23:29-33
Who hath woe? who hath sorrow? who hath contentions? who           hath babbling? who hath wounds without cause? who hath                 redness of eyes?
[30] They that tarry long at the wine; they that go to seek                 mixed wine.
[31] Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth          his colour in the cup, when it moveth itself aright.

       (a) Verse 31 says we are not to look upon wine when it is                        fermented

[32] At the last it biteth like a serpent, and stingeth like an adder.

       (a) Fermented wine bites like a serpent, stings like an adder,                  and will make you lust after strange flesh

[33] Thine eyes shall behold strange women, and thine heart shall           utter perverse things.

(16) Proverbs 31:4-5
It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine;           nor for princes strong drink:
[5] Lest they drink, and forget the law, and pervert the                      judgment of any of the afflicted.

(17) We could stay here all day and show you the verse's why wine          is wrong

(18) I do not know why some people want to live as close to the               world as they can

(19) Captain, you know where all the rocks, wrong, I know where             they are not

(20) The safest way I know to escape danger is get as far away as           you can, not as close as you can

(21) If you will listen to me I will get you safe to the other side, I             don't how close you can get to hell and still not go there, I will           show you where the safe places are and one place for sure               drinking wine and strong drink, is not one of the safe places
