EXERCISING OUR SENSES
PART TWO

(1) Hebrews 5:14 But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full       age, even those who by reason of use have their senses                   exercised to discern both good and evil.

(2) 1 Corinthians 2:15 But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet       he himself is judged of noman.

(a) So here we see that some one who is spiritual judges all things

(b) The spiritual man examines, convinces, and reproves the                   natural man of his evil ways, yet no one is able to find fault               with the godly man.

(3) 1 Corinthians 2:14 But the natural man receiveth not the things       of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither         can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

(a) So we see the natural man receives not he things of God

(3) 1 Corinthians 3:1-3
1 And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual,            but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ.
2 I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye            were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able.
3 For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you                    envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk          as men?

(a) In these verses we see those who don't exercise their senses

(b) Verse one we see Paul is speaking to carnal, even babes

(c) In verse two see milk feeding, not strong meat

(d) Remember our text
Hebrews 5:14 But strong meat belongeth to them that are of            full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses              exercised to discern both good and evil.

(e) Strong meat belongs to those who are of full age, not carnal, not       babes

(f) Meat belongs to those who are spiritual that is those that obey        the Spirit of God, and the Word of God

(g) The Spirit of God and the Word of God agrees with God the             Father

(h) 1 John 5:7 For there are three that bear record in heaven, the          Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.

I. LET US RETURN TO OUR TEXT

(1) Hebrews 5:14 But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full       age, even those who by reason of use have their senses                   exercised to discern both good and evil.

(a) Now I want us to back a few verses starting with
     verse 13

(1) Hebrews 5:13 For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the          word of righteousness: for he is a babe.

(a) We have to many who are unskillful in the word of                              righteousness

(b) Notice in the word of righteousness

(c) What makes him unskillful is he is still a babe

(d) We will cover why he is still a babe in a few verses

(2) Hebrews 5:12 For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye       have need that one teach you again which be the first principles       of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of             milk, and not of strongmeat.

(a) Now we see you should be teachers but you need to be taught          again

(b) Why do you have to be taught again

(c) Verse 11

(3) Hebrews 5:11 Of whom we have many things to say, and hard to       be uttered, seeing ye are dull of hearing.

(a) Why does some have to be taught again dull of hearing

(b) Why is he a babe dull of hearing

(c) Why does he need milk and not meat dull of hearing

(d) Why is he unskillful in the word of righteousness dull of hearing

II. WHY ARE SOME DULL OF HEARING

(1) Let's see what Jesus says

(2) Matthew 13:15 For this people's heart is waxed gross, and their       ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at       any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with their             ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be
converted, and I should heal them.

(a) We are dull of hearing because we want to be

(b) Notice they have closed

III. WHO IS EXERCISING THEIR SENSES

(1) 1 John 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we             have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ        his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

(a) Those who walk in the light

(2) 1 John 2:17 And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof:          but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.

(a) He that is doing the will of God

(3) Matthew 7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord,             shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the            will of my Father which is in heaven.

(4) John 14:23-24
23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will         keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come         unto him, and make our abode with him.
24 He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word       which ye hear is not mine, but the Father's which sent me.

(a) Those who keep his word
