I. I Samuel 10:9 And it was so, that when he had turned his back to
go from Samuel, God gave him another heart: and all those signs
came to pass that day.
A. We see God gave Saul another heart. Do you remember the day that God
changed your heart? The day that God cleansed your heart?
B. My prayer today is that we would have the heart that God wants us to have.
II. I Samuel 10:26 And Saul also went home to Gibeah; and there went with him a band of men, whose hearts God had touched.
A. We see by the verse above that there was a group of men that went with
Saul, whose heart God had touched. Thank the Lord for touching our
hearts.
B. Give me a people whose heart has been touched by God. Give me a
people who has been given another heart by God.
III. Joel 2:12-13
12 Therefore also now, saith the Lord, turn ye even to me with all
your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning.
13 And rend your heart, and not your garments, and turn unto the
Lord your God: for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and
of great kindness, and repenteth him of the evil.
A. By verse 12 we see we are turned to God with all of our heart; this includes
fasting, weeping, and mourning.
B. We need to turn back to God with some old-fashioned concern about our
condition, and the conditions of the ones which come in contact with it.
C. We see in verse 13 our hearts are to be broken. We need an old-fashioned
brokeness for our nation, for our churches, for lost souls.
D. God was about to send judgment upon his people, but before judgment God
sent a message. Turn with all your heart, with fasting, and with weeping,
with mourning, with brokeness.
E. In other words, God's people need to get real before God, get sincere that
judgment might pass, and mercy outstretch to us one more time.
IV. Matthew 13:15 For this peoples heart is waxed gross, and their
ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at
any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears,
and should understand with their heart, and should be converted,
and I should heal them.
A. Matthew 13:15 in the N.I.V. reads: For this people's heart has become
calloused; they hardly hear with their ears, and they have closed ther
eyes. Otherwise thy might see with their eyes, hear with their ears,
understand with their hearts and turn, and I would heal them.
B. We see in Matthew 13:15 that people's hearts have become calloused. In other words insensitive. God give your people a sensitive heart.
C. If our hearts become callous it is because of a willful choice to disbey God.
If we can't hear it is because of willful disobedience. If we can't see it is because we have chose to close our eyes.
D. But glory to God any time we choose to see with our eyes, we choose to hear with our ears, and understand with our heart, and turn to the living God, he will heal; he will deliver; he will set his people free when we let him do a heart transplant in us.
V. Hosea 10:2 (A) Their heart is divided; now shall they be found faulty:
A. When the heart is divided, there is fault in the life. This is why Jesus said we cannot serve two masters.
B. Lord, let our hearts be undivided towards you, towards your word, towards
your will. Let us not be found faulty.
VI. Hosea 7:11 Ephraim also is like a silly dove without heart: they
call to Egypt, they go to Assyria.
A. We can be compared to a people without heart, when we don't call upon
God, when we don't g to God. Let us not be a silly dove without heart that
calls upon the world or goes to the world to try to find help.
B. But let us be a people with heart, that calls upon God, that goes to God for help. Our help comes from the Lord.
VII. Hosea 7:14 (A) And they have not cried unto me with their heart,
A. We need to put our whole heart in everything that we do for the Lord, even
our crying.
VIII. Ezekiel 18:31 Cast away from you all your transgressions,
whereby ye have transgressed; and make you a new heart and
a new spirit: for why will ye die; O house of Israel?
A. How do we make a new heart and a new spirit? We make them by turning from our sins and turning back to God.
IX. Jeremiah 24:7 And I will give them an heart to know me, that I am the Lord; and they shall be my people, and I will be their God: for they shall return unto me with their whole heart.
A. In this verse we see that God was given them a heart to know him. Let us pray that God will give us a heart to know him.
B. When God gives us a heart to know him then we can return to him with our whole heart.
C. One of the things that the church needs to do is to return to God with her whole heart.
D. Keep nothing back, give him all of it, all of your heart, the whole thing.
X. Deuteronomy 5:29 Oh that there were such an heart in them, that
they would fear me, and keep all my commandments always, that
it might be well with them, and with their children for ever
A. Lord put such a heart in us that we would fear you, that is have a holy
reverence for you.
B. Lord put such a heart in us that we will keep all your commandments.
C. Then it will be well with us, and well with our children forever.
XI. I Kings 8:39 Then hear thou in heaven thy dwelling place, and
forgive, and do, and give to every man accordning to his ways,
whose heart thou knowest; (for thou, even thou only, knowest the
hearts of all the children of men;)
A. God knows our heart, Lord show me my heart, the way that you see it.
Then help me to correct it by your spirit.
XII. I Kings 8:48 And so return unto thee with all their heart, and with
all their soul, in the land of their enemies, which led them away
captive, and pray unto thee toward their land, which thou gavest
unto their fathers, the city which thou hast chosen, and the house
which I have built for thy name:
A. If God's people will return to him with all their heart and with all their soul,
even in captivity God will hear his people when they return with all of their
heart.
XIII. I Kings 8:61 Let your heart therefore be perfect with the Lord our
God, to walk in his statutes, and to keep his commandments, as
at this day.
A. Lord give us a heart that will walk in your statutes, and that will keep your
commandments.
XIV. I Kings 8:66 On the eighth day he sent the people away: and they
blessed the king, and went unto their tents joyful and glad of heart
for all the goodness that the Lord had done for David his servant,
and for Israel his people.
A. Because of the goodness of the Lord, we should have a joyful heart, a glad
heart, for everything the Lord has done for us.
XV. I Kings 11:3 And he had seven hundred wives, princesses, and
three hundred concubines: and his wives turned away his heart.
A. We see all the wisdom that Solomon had in the above verses, but wisdom
alone was not enough to keep his heart. His wives turned away his heart
from his God. The Lord had said not to have multiple wives.
B. If we're going to keep our hearts toward God, then we are going to obey
him. That is the safeguard to keep our heart from turning away from God.
XVI. I Samuel 16:7 But the Lord said unto Samuel, Look not on his
countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have
refused him: for the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man
looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the
heart.
A. We see by this verse that God looks where man can't on the heart. I
wonder what God sees when he looks on my heart or on your heart?
XVII. I Samuel 24:5 And it came to pass afterward, that Davids heart
smote him, because he had cut off Sauls skirt.
A. David's heart could convict him of wrong. You need to read this whole
chapter to appreciate what God is doing here.
B. Lord give us a heart that can be touched by your word and by your spirit.
XVIII. John 14:23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love
me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we
will come unto him, and make our abode with him.
A. In the above verse we see that if we love God we will keep his words.
Where do we find these word? We find them in the bible.
IXX. Proverbs 28:26 He that trusteth in his own heart is a fool: but
whoso walketh wisely, he shall be delivered.
A. Let us not trust in our own heart, but trust the word which is the heart of God. His heart is the one that we should trust.
XX. Jeremiah 17:9-10
9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately
wicked: who can know it?
10 I the Lord search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every
man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his
doings.
A. Verse 9 reveals that a heart that is not controlled by the word of God and by the spirit of God is desperately wicked. It is deceitful. My heart and your heart not controlled by God is deceitful and desperately wicked. With this comes blindness as the bible says: Who can know it?
B. Verse 10 reveals that the Lord searches the heart. How does the Lord search the heart? According to our ways. Our ways is our heart, by the
fruit of our doing. Our doing is our heart.
XXI. Matthew 7:21-23
21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
A. Verse 21 revels that it's got to be more than coming from the mouth, when we say Lord, Lord. It has got to come from the heart for this is where the fruit of the Spirit comes from. From within.
B. Verse 22 reveals ourward works. We see that we can proclaim to do outward works and still not be right with the Lord.
C. Verse 23 reveals that these were workers of iniquity. Outward works are needed but not if there is no inward work taken place.
D. So our ways and our doings are not necessarily the outward things that we do for the Lord. We can do things for the Lord and not be right with the
Lord.
E. Let us let our work for the Lord be from the results of the inward work of his Holy Spirit, of his Holy Word. Then our heart will be founded pure.
XXII. Acts 8:21 Thou hast neither part nor lot in this matter: for thy heart is not right in the sight of God.
A. We see that when our heart is not right, the we have no part in the matter.
I want a part in the kingdom of heaven, don't you? Then let us get our heart right before God.
XXIII. Luke 24:25 Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to
believe all that the prophets have spoken.
A. We see that God's people can have a slow heart when it comes to believing. Lord, I pray that you would give us another heart, one that is not slow, but quick to believe your word.
XXIV. Luke 24:32 And they said one to another, did not our heart burn
within us, while he talked with us by the way, and whle he opened
to us the scriptures?
A. We need a holy heartburn fellowship with Jesus and he wil set our heart on fire. Let him open the scriptures to us and God will give us a holy heartburn.
XXV. Mark 7:21-23
21 For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders,
22 Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness,
an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness:
23 All these evil things come from within, and defile the man.
A. We see that sin is a heart condition, this is why we need to allow God to change our hearts
XXVI. Let us pray like David did in Psalm 51:10 Create in me a clean
heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.
